Carbon Opus Series

The Lamborghini of Fish art.

Working with forged carbon fiber is a complex art that blends precision with innovation. This piece is the first of a series of new sculptures inspired from Alex’s original stainless steel pelagic sculpture designs. Unlike traditional carbon fiber, Forged Carbons randomized fiber pattern requires meticulous control to shape and mold while maintaining its strength. The challenge lies in balancing the material's structural integrity with its unique visual texture, transforming it into a piece that is both technically advanced and aesthetically compelling. Mastery of forged carbon fiber demands a deep understanding of its unpredictable nature, pushing the boundaries of modern material science and artistic expression. These one of a kind sculptures are created by Alex in his San Diego studio.

What is Forged Carbon…..?

Forged carbon is a composite material made by mixing carbon fiber fragments with resin and then molding the mixture under heat and pressure

Key characteristics of forged carbon:

  • Unique appearance

Forged carbon has a marbled or swirled pattern because the carbon fibers are randomly oriented, unlike in traditional carbon fiber composites.

  • Lightweight and strong

Forged carbon is lightweight but very strong and durable, with uniform strength in all directions.

  • Corrosion resistant

Forged carbon is more resistant to corrosion than other materials like aluminum and titanium.
